Overview
Through painting, drawing and photography, the artists brought together in The Roles We Play explore how identity is shaped through a series of positions, whether social, cultural, relational or internal. The figures depicted rarely appear as fixed identities; instead, they inhabit roles, sometimes assumed, sometimes imposed, often ambiguous. The works oscillate between staging and introspection. Some suggest social or familial dynamics, where roles are defined in relation to others; others reveal more intimate states, where individuals confront themselves, between control and letting go. Through these different approaches, the artists highlight the unstable and constructed nature of identity, constantly shifting, constantly in the making.
