Biography
Norbert Bisky (b. 1970, Leipzig) is a leading German painter known for his vividly colored, unsettling compositions that merge figuration and abstraction. His work explores memory, history and the human condition, drawing on the visual legacy of Socialist Realism, popular culture and personal experience.

Raised in former East Germany, he studied at the Berlin University of the Arts under Georg Baselitz, with further training in Madrid and at the Salzburg Summer Academy with Jim Dine. His paintings often depict fragmented or falling bodies, reflecting instability, social tension, and contemporary anxieties, while retaining an ambiguous sense of beauty.

Bisky’s work is held in major international collections, including the Museum of Modern Art, New York; the FNAC (Fond National d’Art Contemporain, France; and the National Museum of Contemporary Art, Seoul.
