Anger is transformed into an act of creation. Cold, industrial materials take on a playful twist. Dented, with bent joints, her large-scale works seem as if they were made in a matter of moments, yet they require long hours of shaping and craftsmanship. The use of bold, unbroken colors, more commonly found on plastic objects, brings an added sense of lightness to her sculptures. Some tubular forms resemble a twisted drinking straw. With a deliberate sense of humor, the artist evokes carefree moments connected to childhood. Physicality lies at the heart of Anna Fasshauer’s practice. Here, the tangible and the imperfect are amplified—something we may need now more than ever. Born in Cologne in 1975, she studied at Chelsea School of Art and Design in London. Today, she lives and works in Berlin. Unlike many sculptors, Anna Fasshauer works without assistants, creating each piece entirely on her own.
