Exhibition at the Albany Institute of History & Art

For Liberation and For Life marks the 50th anniversary of Black Dimensions in Art, Inc. (BDA), a volunteer-led collective founded in 1975 to support and celebrate artists of the African Diaspora. For five decades, BDA has championed Black creativity through exhibitions, workshops, and community programs across New York’s Capital Region.

Bringing together over sixty artists, the exhibition features paintings, photographs, films, textiles, sculptures, and mixed-media works that reflect the depth and diversity of Black artistic expression—past, present, and future. The title takes inspiration from Elizabeth Catlett’s words: “We have to create an art for liberation and for life.”
