Andrea Galvani

The Void Migrates to the Surface at Fotografiska Shanghai

For his first solo exhibition in Asia, Italian-born artist Andrea Galvani presents The Void Migrates to the Surface, a monumental video and sound installation exploring time, fragility, and transformation.

Using ultra–slow motion technology capturing up to one million frames per second, Galvani extends the fleeting lives of endangered butterflies — from a few weeks to the length of a human lifetime — creating a hypnotic choreography of flight and decay.

In this immersive environment, time unfolds with poetic precision: wings fray, light shifts, and the boundary between life and void dissolves. Accompanied by an original soundtrack by composer Federico Albanese, Galvani’s work invites us to reflect on the continuity of existence and the fragile beauty of the natural world.
