Finding Words, Fighting Words: Anjesa Dellova

11 September - 8 November 2025
Overview

For her first solo show at the gallery, Anjesa Dellova brings together paintings and videos, earlier and more recent works reflecting the span of her artistic practice. Here, Anjesa persists in her technique of rubbing dry paint onto the rough canvas, where monochrome faces and disjointed bodies rise like spectres. Through this gesture, the artist digs into the opacity of memories, probes the mind, examines rituals and investigates cultural identities. Her work explores the appearance of faces, defeated bodies, memories inhabited by childhood and the difficulty of grasping their contours.

Drawing inspiration from artistic references, Anjesa Dellova questions what connects family and what defines otherness and identity, in a critical exploration of the stories that have been passed down to her. Essential questions tied to death, mourning, pain and suffering in our societies are recurring themes in her practice.

The works seem to speak to us intimately, yet they resist words: for to name is also to freeze, simplify, reduce to the deceptive illusion of having understood what remains veiled. Confronted with these reductive impulses, the artist takes a critical stance through Finding Words, Fighting Words: that of offering an uncomfortable face-to-face encounter with the paintings.
