In The End [Action #1] Still #3 and #5, the Sun is suspended as it rises above the surface of the sea. To produce this work, Galvani prepared and coordinated with local cameramen to film and photograph the sunrise along the eastern coastline of five different countries in Central America. The images were shot simultaneously, 500 kilometers apart.

On the morning of January 8, the anniversary of Galileo’s death in 1642, the event was filmed in over 30 different locations at the same time. Discrepancies between atmospheric conditions, the sensitivity of 16mm film technology, and the movements of each individual manifest as a prism of time and space. Comprised by synchronized videos portraying looped footage of the Sun ascending above an oceanic horizon, the site-specific installation self-illuminates as in nature. Incandescent, the source of light is the Sun itself.

Projected upon an architectural field of walls and platforms, The End [Action #1] was designed as an ephemeral monument—pedestals of light meant to be used by vocalists whose voices activate and enliven the space. The video installation, originally conceived as an Art in General New Commission, is here reconfigured specifically for Fabienne Levy Gallery, and will be presented for the first time in Switzerland.
