Biography
Anna Fasshauer (b. 1975, Germany) lives and works in Berlin. She graduated with an MFA from Chelsea School of Art and Design, London in 2001. Her work has been exhibited in many group and solo shows around the world, including venues such as the Jardin des Tuileries in Paris, Kunstverein Offenburg and Kunstverein Arnsberg in Germany, the Barbican Center in London, and the Goethe Institute in Beirut.

Fasshauer’s practice is rooted in the physical encounter between body, tool, and material. She uses only her body and a rivet gun to form her sculptures – no assistants, no bending machinery, no fabricators. The hammer, the most archaic of instruments, becomes both an extension of the artist and a metaphor for transformation. Each blow transfers anger, energy, and willpower to the work, turning destruction into creation. Dents, cracks, and deformations no longer signify damage but strength, visible records of force and persistence.

The welding machine continues this choreography of transformation. Aluminum, atomic number 13, stands at the core of this process. Light yet unyielding, it endures every impact and spark, capturing the tension between fragility and endurance. In doing so, Fasshauer retains her sense of celebratory whimsy and humor, often assigning anthropological attributes and titles to her vibrantly colored forms.
